NOMINATION OF DR. NARINDER KUMAR batra, PUNJABI LECTURER, GOVT. SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, SHERMAJRA (PATIALA) (PUNJAB) INDIA.

Dr. narinder kumar batra was appointed as punjabi lecturer on 01-03-1996. he has been serving in this school since 10-07-1996. His excellence in teaching is reflected in his results which are nearly hundred percent. He uses latest method of teaching, which makes his teaching interesting and highly effective. His teaching is not limited to classroom only. Students come to him in his vacant periods to get their problems solved. He encourages his students to do extra reading and suggests the name of useful books, which they should read. It must be mentioned that he has been given the BEST TEACHER AWARD four times by Govt. of Punjab (Deputy commissioner of Patiala), Lions club Barandari, Manav kalyan parishad and Patiala social welfare society.
Dr. Narinder Kumar batra is highly qualified. Besides acquiring the basic qualifications for his post, he has also got Ph.D. in Punjabi literature from Punjabi university, Patiala. He did his Ph.D. after joining the service but he did never let his studies interfere with his duty as a teacher.
Being a versatile personality, his field of activities is very vast. He is constantly engaged in some activity for spreading awareness in society or for the upliftment of down trodden classes of society. The place of his job is not a place for him to earn his living only. He uses all his time in school for educating his students and for developing their personality. In the morning assembly he delivers brief lectures on topic like AIDS, Environmental Pollution, Preservation of Environment, Need for Adult Education or on social evils like Dowry, Female Fetus Killings, Global Warming or some other topic related to the development of personality of his students. Even a commonplace topic acquires importance and interest when he speaks about it. He inspires the students to raise their level of awareness and to cultivate good habits.
He is also dedicated to spreading literacy among the adults. This school being a cluster-center for National Literacy Programme, Post-Literacy programme, he is constantly in touch with the volunteers who are doing their best to spread literacy among the neighboring villages. He often visits these villages to give guidance to the volunteers and to encourage the illiterate villagers to join adult teaching centers. Being an efficient person, he has to do a lot of paper work in the school, but never complains.
His activities are not limited to school only. He is a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines. His critical essays, reviews, articles appear in all leading newspapers and magazines. He also writes on topic like AIDS, Environmental Pollution, Universal Literacy and social evils est. He wrote two books namely "Guru Nanak Dev Ji dian varan : saroop ate vishleshan" (in punjabi-gurmukhi script) and "EK ONKAR SATNAM : a book on Sikhism" (in English-roman script).
He is particularly dedicated to the preservation and propagation of trees and plants. Actively associated with Eco Club, he has many times donated plants and often encourages his students to follow his example. He advocates Organic Agriculture and gives knowledge about it to his students. Due to his efforts the school has a lot of plants and trees.
He has contacts with leading clubs and organizations. On his advice the clubs and organizations have many times donated free books and woolen jerseys to the needy students. Many poor students have also received financial aid.
Dr. narinder Kumar batra provides an enriching environment in which her gifted and talented students are able flourish in all educational areas. He has a flexible program designed for use with third grade students who are advanced and at various levels in all academic subjects. He introduces her materials in such a motivational manner that the students are always involved and on task. The scope and sequence of her class lessons lead to the continual upward progress of the children's academic, emotional, and behavioral levels. Dr. batra is soft, and lends it to the children respecting each other in a like manner.

I have personally viewed, on many occasions, the classroom economy system that she employs with her students. It allows the children to think, make appropriate choices, and accepts responsibility for themselves and their classmates.

The first teacher that comes to mind would be my Explorers gifted teacher dr. batra. He is the kindest individual I have ever encountered in my life, and was always patient with every student. He treats her students as equals, and never fails to be understanding and sensitive to the feelings of those around her. He is always fair, but is very approachable, so every student is able to reach out for help if they wanted to. He also happened to be the first teacher who encouraged and supported when I became the gifted coordinator. He has a HUGE impact on students, and to this day I thank his for all that she is does.

Dr. batra challenges her gifted and talented students in a way that fosters respect and responsibility. His students participate in a classroom economy that allows them to earn an income, pay monthly bills, and learn how to budget their money for purchases in the class store. The student "income" is tied directly to their behavior and responsibilities as a student. Students are eager to participate and parents have indicated that they transfer these skills and apply them at home with their own money.

Dr. narinder Kumar batra is always on the lookout for the best practices for the entire school, whether it is a Tran disciplinary view of water as a resource for 5th graders or animals in folk tales across the world for early childhood, or personal connections to the identity issues found in Huckleberry Finn for 7th graders. He knows every student on campus, and learns about their strengths and concerns, and works to support each one individually, through personal attention, through extracurricular opportunities to enrich their passions, and through curriculum that crosses domains and connects the students with the world and with their own wonderful selves. He is an unsung hero in the school, the driver of all cognitive and affective support.

He is an asset to this school. I strongly recommend his name for the teacher of the year award and wish him a bright and prosperous future.
